The 2023 Young Investigator Awardee was announced  and presented at APCCMI 2023.

Following review by a panel of experts, we are pleased to announce Dr Mo Yin as awardee of the APSCMI APSCMI / Institut Mérieux Young Investigator Award 2023.

Dr Mo Yin is an Infectious Diseases physician and clinician scientist based at National University Hospital of Singapore. She is also the deputy director of the ADVANCE-ID network.

She has designed and conducted large multinational clinical trials which focus on pragmatic solutions for antibiotic resistant bacterial infections. These include the MERINO trial which compared piperacillin-tazobactam and meropenem for ceftriaxone resistant Enterobacterales bloodstream infections (Harris, JAMA 2018), and recently concluded REGARD-VAP trial which is an randomised trial with an aim of reducing antibiotic treatment duration for ventilator associated pneumonia (Mo, BMJ Open 2021).

As the lead for REGARD-VAP, she established a network involving over 40 intensive care units in Thailand, Nepal, Singapore and Brazil, and put together a team of over 100 investigators and research staff. Beyond the trial, REGARD-VAP is investigating microbiome changes in  patients in response to antibiotic treatment, and conducted qualitative research with an aim of implementing antibiotic stewardship programmes.

In her current position in ADVANCE-ID, she is leading ACORN-HAI (Mo, Wellcome Open 2023) which is an observational study for bloodstream infections and ventilator-associated pneumonia across 40 sites in 17 countries in Asia.

Dr Mo Yin is driven by the ideal of using quality clinical research to improve patient outcomes and propel global policies.

Congratulations Dr Yin!

Thank you to all applicants who took time to apply and we hope you will consider applying for future awards.
